Research and educational employees of the department are active participants in programs and projects of the British Council in Ukraine.
In December 2014, the British Council in Ukraine initiated the project “English for universities” after the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine identified improving the level of English proficiency in universities as one of its priorities.
12 research and educational employees of the department joined the project in 2016. During the summer and winter school of professional skills, the teachers improved their professional skills in teaching English, in particular, professional direction.
Subsequently, new ideas and content of training were disseminated among more than 350 teachers of the Faculty of Linguistics and other higher education institutions of Ukraine. The results of the study were published in 2017.
The next stage of the project was an expert evaluation, the purpose of which was to assess the impact of the project on the quality of teaching and learning in partner HEIs, as well as on the education system and policy changes. In October and November 2018, Professor Simon Borg visited National Technical University of Ukraine
“Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute” and met with teachers and students, attended classes and discussed the results of the project with the university management. The British Council presented a study of the results of the program in February 2019.
According to the results of the project “English for universities”, the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine formed a working group to develop the document “Conceptual principles of state policy regarding the development of the English language in the field of higher education”, which was joined by specialists of the department.
A new milestone of cooperation began in 2021. Research and educational staff of the department joined the international project of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine and the British Council in Ukraine “Professional development of foreign language teachers”. Together with institutions of postgraduate pedagogical education, employees of the department participated in the training of English language teachers of grades 5-6 within the framework of the “New Ukrainian School” reform and “ESP Community of Practice” on the new online platform of the British Council Online Teacher Community. Participation in such an ambitious project inspired the teachers of the department to create their own project for research and educational employees of higher education institutions – “Pedagogical facilitation in learning foreign languages and cultures in the conditions of education reform.”
