Dear Kyiv polytechnics!
On August 23, all Ukrainians celebrate Flag Day, one of the three state symbols that became the official signs of our statehood and sovereignty after the independence of Ukraine.
According to the official version, on this day in 1991, after the failure of the putsch in Moscow, a group of deputies led by Viacheslav Chornovil solemnly brought the national blue-yellow flag to the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine.
Even then, the hope for a sovereign Ukraine, for which many generations of Ukrainians fought, became a reality. The belief crystallized that Ukraine would follow the example of the Baltic countries and separate from the Soviet Union, which for decades destroyed its identity, historical strength, and killed the best representatives of the Ukrainian nation.
Today, the Ukrainian flag is once again creating wonders and sustaining this hope and faith – both ours and the world’s. The flag signed by the military in Bakhmut now hangs inside the White House, reminding high-ranking American officials of the need to support Ukraine in its war of liberation.
The raised blue-yellow flag over Izyum, Balaklia and Kherson helps our people from Melitopol and Berdyansk, Donbass and Crimea to hold on.
Drawn with pencils on children’s drawings, it goes to the trenches and military hospitals, strengthening the fighting spirit and warming the souls of our soldiers. Since the first days of the war, Ukrainian flags have flown in all corners of the world, reminding Ukrainians that we are not alone, and Russians that they are not welcome anywhere.
We are working tirelessly to ensure that the entire country is covered in blue and yellow and that our main symbol does not have to be hidden from the eyes of the occupiers in any corner of it.
