Today we celebrate the day of creation of the most important state law of Ukraine – the Constitution! This document is one of the direct confirmations that Ukrainians are masters in their home and country and no one else can preside over them. The Venice Commission recognizes our Constitution as one of the most democratic in Europe, especially in terms of the rights, freedoms and duties of citizens, which fully meet international standards in the field of constitutional law.
Adoption of the Constitution establishes the legal foundations of independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine:
- Article 3: “A person, his life and health, honor and dignity, inviolability and security are recognized as the highest social value in Ukraine.”
- Article 17: “Protecting the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine, ensuring its economic and informational security are the most important functions of the state, the business of the entire Ukrainian people.”
